Dear Client,

we're pleased to announce:

  1. Printfil 5.2 has been released

  2. @Kill 1.0 has been released

1) Printfil 5.2 has been released

News:

  • An optimized GDI rendering engine now makes the print job creation process faster of about 30-50% on average, expecially if Preview is enabled.

  • Simplified Terminal Server installations. It's no nore needed to write complex logon scripts and manually replicate the Printfil.ini file to run multiple Printfil instances on the server with different configurations for different users.

  • Licenses centralization on the network server. When Printfil is used on a network (either peer-to-peer or in Terminal Server environments) now the license codes are stored all in once, on the server, without having to register each single client anymore.
Licenses which are already distributed on the client machines will be automatically centralized on the server simply by upgrading to the new Printfil version, without requiring any manual intervention.
The centralized licenses can be managed all in once by any Printfil copy, running either on the server or on the client side.

  • Environment variables recognition in the "File to check" field. In addition to the already supported wildcards (* and ?), now you can also specify environment variables, to have a single Printfil instance checking for variable spool files.
    For example:
"[e:HOMEPATH]\file*.txt" normally makes Printfil intercepting all the text files beginning with "file" in the user's home directory (whereever it's located on disk). By changing the HOMEPATH value, Printfil will look for different files without having to change its own configuration.

  • Improved Windows Vista compatibility.

  • When creating the Printfil virtual printer used to capture the DOS LPT1: port, you can now choose on which location the temporary file containing the captured output will be stored. By accepting the default value, the temporary file will be created on the user's TEMP directory, as before, but in some situations you may want it created on an alternative specific location.

  • Added user interface in Arabic and Finnish languages.

  • Some other minor improvements and bug fixes.

The upgrade is free for all the Customers who are actually using the 5.x version, by using the same license codes. They just need to download and install the new setup program at https://www.printfil.com/edown.htm (or leave the AutoUpdate program doing it automatically)

If you are still using an old 4.3 version, purchased since 7 Nov 2005 (date of its release), you've right to the free upgrade too, but even your license codes needs to be upgraded (Printfil 5 uses different codes than Printfil 4). The AutoUpdate program will guide you through the updating process and will automatically update all what's needed. If the automatic check has been disabled, simply right-click the Printfil's trayed icon and choose "Search for updates".

If you've purchased a previous 4.x license, since 2003, you can upgrade Printfil to the newest version by purchasing an Upgrade license at the special prices listed at https://www.printfil.com/eprice.htm

2) @Kill 1.0 has been released

@Kill is a new freeware utility used to show which Windows programs are on esecution in the PC (including hidden and trayed programs) and automatically close some of them, even by scripts.

It can be used, for example, to stop Printfil 5.0 or previous versions running on the machine by a batch file (Printfil 5.1 can be stopped even by its own CLOSE parameter)
