Dear Client,

I'm pleased to announce to you the new Printfil 5.31 release.

What's new:

  • Printfil now can automatically remove blank pages even in the middle of the GDI prints, if the RemLastChr parameter is set to a negative value (e.g. -1). Please search for the "RemLastChr" word in the manual, chapter 4

  • If Printfil is running in evaluation mode and detects that the last page of a captured GDI print is empty, it now suggests the page explaining how to use the RemLastChr parameter to automatically remove the blank pages. Please search for the "RemLastChr" word in the manual, chapter 4

  • Added integration with dbDOSv 2 and dbDOS PRO 7. Unlike the other DOSBox variants already supported by Printfil, dbDOS allows multiple DOSBox configurations in the same machine. Printfil now detects if these products are installed in the system and can automatically capture the prints run in those configurations specifically set up to use Printfil.
Just like the other DosBox variants already supported by Printfil, dbDOS may be useful to run a DOS program on a 64-bit Windows OS without having to use virtual machines through software like VMWare or VirtualBox

  • When Printfil starts in evaluation mode on a 64-bit machine and detects that no DOSBox variant that supports printing is installed, a small message appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen. If clicked it points to a page explaining how to use our DosPrint utility to automatically download, install, and configure the right DOSBox variant

  • When Printfil starts and detects there's a DOSBox variant that supports printing installed on the machine, but it's not configured to redirect the prints to Printfil, a small message appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen. If clicked it can automatically fix the DOSBox configuration

  • When Printfil was used in combination with the newest vDos versions, sometimes the autoconfiguration of this DOSBox variant could fail. Fixed

  • Some other minor improvements

If you're currently using a previous 5.x version, the previous license codes are still valid even for the new version. You just need to download and install the new Printfil setup program (or leave the AutoUpdate program doing it automatically) without uninstalling the current version first.

If instead you are still using a very old 4.3 version, purchased up to 23 Apr 2006, the license codes need to be upgraded to the 5.x version. Simply right-click the Printfil's trayed icon, choose "Search for updates" and the AutoUpdate program will guide you further.

If you've questions, comments, or suggestions, please do not hesitate to get back to me.

Kind regards,

Andrea Guolo
