Dear Client,

we're pleased to announce the new Printfil 5.10 release.

What's new:

  • Full Windows 7 compatibility (already included in the 5.9 -5- update we released in October 2009)
  • Now you can print a PRN file in RAW mode simply by dragging and dropping it over the Printfil's desktop icon. If you'll associate PRN files with Printfil when requested during the installation process, then you can print them with just a double click.
  • On some Windows Terminal Servers the list of Windows printers available to a specific RDP users in a given moment might not match those in the Windows Control Panel in that moment.
  • During the installation process now you can choose whether creating the Startup icon to start Printfil automatically at the PC bootup or not. You may want to avoid creating it if you wish to start Printfil yourself by a batch file or logon script.
  • On some Windows Terminal Servers the "Printfil" virtual printer could not be correctly created if working on an RDP session instead of the console.
  • On Windows Vista, Seven and 2008 Server, the "Printfil" virtual printer now produces PDF's of better quality.
  • The tooltip of the trayed icon now shows even which LPT port is captured (if any). This is particularly useful if different Printfil instances are running simultaneously to capture different LPT ports.
  • When sending out captured print jobs via e-mail, if SMTP authentication was enabled on a server that doesn't support it, in some cases Printfil could hangup.
  • The Help -> Contact Support Printfil's menu entry now creates the attachments with TXT extension instead of TMP to avoid a "security warning" of some Outlook versions.
  • Some other minor improvements.

The upgrade is free for all the Customers who are using the 5.x version, by using the same license codes. You just need to download and install the new Printfil setup program (or leave the AutoUpdate program doing it automatically)

If you are still using an old 4.3 version, purchased since 7 Nov 2005 (date of its release), you've right to the free upgrade too, but even your license codes needs to be upgraded (Printfil 5 uses different codes than Printfil 4). The AutoUpdate program will guide you through the update process and will automatically update everything that is needed. If the automatic check has been disabled, simply right-click the Printfil's trayed icon and choose "Search for updates".

If you've purchased previous 4.x licenses from 2003 to 2005, for a limited time only, you can still upgrade them to the newest version simply by purchasing Printfil Upgrade licenses at discounted prices. Don't miss this opportunity! it will expire soon!

If you've questions, comments or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards,

Davide Guolo
